911, What’s your Emergency?
The Ontario Fire Department communication center, an accredited center of excellence by the International Academy of Emergency Dispatch, is a multi-jurisdictional dispatch communications center. The Ontario Fire Department staffs 3-4 dispatchers per 12 hour shift handling both 911 emergency and non-emergency calls and dispacthing units for the Ontario Fire Department, Corona Fire Department, and the Ontario International Airport. Dispatchers utilize a state of the art computer aided dispatching system including an interactive emergency medical dispatching system to provide pre-arrival instructions to callers to aid the responding paramedics and first responders. The Ontario Fire Department communication center plays a vital role in the emergency communications for the Ontario Police department as their back up dispatch center.

Qualifications
Fire Dispatcher- Trainee
- High School Diploma or recognized equivalent
- 1 year customer or public service involving significant contact with the public.
- Valid Class C CA drivers license
- English usage and grammar
Fire Dispatcher
- Successful completion of the probationary period as a Fire Dispatcher Trainee.
- CPR/First Aid certificate
- Posses and maintain an California Law Enforcement Teletype Systems certification (CLETS)
- Posses and maintain an Internal Academies of Emergency Medical Dispatcher (EMD) certification.
- Knowledge of geography and major road networks, core technologies of Fire Dispatching including CLETS, CAD, incident notification systems, telephones and various radio systems and mapping.
Senior Fire Dispatcher
- 2 years experience as a fire dispatcher with a fire agency.
- Successful completion of the probationary period as a Fire Dispatcher
- Ability to train staff and act as Fire Dispatch Supervisor in their absence
Fire Dispatch Supervisor
- 3 years experience in public safety dispatching for a fire or law enforcement agency,
- Emergency Dispatch-Quality (ED-Q) certification within 6 months of appointment
- Knowledge of city and county disaster plans and procedures. Applicable federal, state and local laws, codes, regulations including FCC regulations.
